Job Description: 

As a Senior Scientist/ Science Manager 2, you will be responsible for leading and executing research and early stage development activities related Illumina’s Sequencing and Bead Array technology, in particular researching , developing and characterizing new DNA sequencing and array materials

Job Responsibilities:
• Explore new technologies, identify and develop creative solutions as part of a dynamic, fast pace multidisciplinary team to overcome current limitations and achieve corporate goals. Areas of expertise to include design of processes for new DNA analysis platforms, including material selection, optimization & characterization, chemical optimization of materials for fluid dynamics, robotics and biochemistry- material interactions
• Exercise independent judgment in developing products, processes and performance evaluation criteria
• Solve extremely complex cross functional development challenges independently and quickly
• Oversee and/or execute the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of experiments for concept, feasibility, and early stage development studies in the realm of material science and analytical science methods to meet aggressive time sensitive goals
• Responsible for the functional management and professional development of a small early stage development group focused on material development and analytical methods
• Build strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary functional groups at multiple Illumina R&D sites globally
• Present technical program updates, write reports, manage technical and functional meetings, and present to Senior Management

Job requirements
• The ideal candidate will have an PhD in, Biophysics, Material Science, Physical or Analytical Chemistry, Bioengineering or Chemical Engineering, and 3-5 yrs Industrial experience in the field of technology development or related field in a fast paced biotechnology environment
• Proven excellence in laboratory, and experimental skills;.
• Sound foundation in analytical chemistry – especially surface modifications and material characterization
• Demonstrated evidence of early stage product and of process development of multidisciplinary systems, including knowledge of optical, fluidics, microfluidics, electronics, and automation systems
• Strong data analysis skills, ability to interpret and draw conclusions from large amounts of data
• Strong foundation in programming (e.g., C, Python, Java) or scripting environments (e.g. Matlab, R)
• Sound understanding of genetic analysis product development, DNA sequencing, DNA hybridization, fluorophore chemistry with an exposure to automation of such processes
• Demonstrated ability, over 1-2years, to manage a fast pace project/ technical team to achieve their goals within defined target timeframes
• Proven capability to functionally develop individuals with BSc, MSc and PhDs
• Proven ability to research, plan, execute and report on multifaceted experiments not necessarily in field of expertise
• Must be detail-oriented, highly motivated and able to multitask on projects with aggressive timelines.
• Must possess a desire to be part of a fast-paced, dynamic environment, have good work ethic with flexible schedule
