Job Description: 

As a Sr. Scientist at Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and help create genomic analysis tools for the next generation of forensic biology. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to create cutting edge and robust new products and assays for the next generation sequencing platforms offered by Illumina. You will participate in the development of high-throughput assays and processes; optimize assay biochemistry and present experimental results and the progress of development activities.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
• Develop new products in fast-paced product development environment. Identify, evaluate, plan, and optimize research ideas leading to new robust assays for forensic genomics based on Illumina’s proprietary technologies.
• Explore new technologies and identify creative solutions to overcome current limitations.
• Design, implement, analyze and present experiments to demonstrate feasibility of new methods and efficiently move products through the development pipeline.
• Optimize assay conditions to achieve commercial levels of stability, robustness, and performance.
• Create scalable infrastructure to support release of developed products.
• Be both a strong individual contributor as well as a collaborative team member. Conduct clear and concise communication with colleagues (cross-functional) and supervisors through oral updates, written reports and technical meetings.

Education and Experience:
• Ph. D. in the biological sciences with greater than 6+ years of industrial experience.
• 3 or more years experience in commercial product development. Preferably in the domain of forensic assay development.
• Strong background in biochemistry and enzymology and a sound understanding of genetic assay development required.
• Experience with development of sample library preparation for next-generation DNA sequencing desired.
• Experience with transfer of new products to manufacturing and/or QC highly desired.
• Experience with next-generation sequencing methods helpful. Skilled in analysis of large and complex data sets.
• Must be detail oriented and highly motivated.
