Quest, LabCorp Among Md. Labs, Hospitals to Start Using CRISP HIE Program

By Kirell Lakhman

Quest and LabCorp are among eight reference labs and community hospitals and specialty clinics in Maryland that today have begun using the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients health information-exchange program.

The news comes one week after I reported that Quest's health IT subsidiary has teamed up with corporate and consumer electronics giant HP to create new electronic health-record platforms aimed at making it easier for physicians to adopt the reference lab's Care360 EHR system.

The other six groups participating in the Maryland CRISP partnership include Holy Cross Hospital, Suburban Hospital, Montgomery General Hospital, American Radiology Services, and Community Radiology, and Advanced Radiology.

Additionally, all 48 Maryland hospitals, which together comprise 11,175 in-patient beds, have "recently committed to sharing data" with the program. Several more organizations will connect "in the next few weeks."

Other hospitals, physician practices, and clinics will be coming online "before the end of the year," including "many of the state's federally qualified health clinics."
