PGXL Labs Joins CVS Caremark's New PGx-Testing PPO

By Kirell Lakhman

Generation Health has picked PGXL Laboratories to be a member of the new pharmacogenetic-testing preferred-provider organization it will set up next month for CVS Caremark.

The high-complexity CLIA lab, founded in 2005 in Louisville, Ky., performs pharmacogenetic and gene-based drug-monitoring tests, and provides contract research for drug and medical-equipment companies.

PGXL uses technologies made by Tm Bioscience, Luminex, Roche Diagnostics, Affymetrix, and Nanogen.

As I reported earlier this month, CVS, the largest pharmacy in the US, in July plans to launch the PPO, called Best Test Genetics Network. A few days later, GH, a genetics-benefits management company partially owned by CVS, tapped Clarient to be the PPO's inaugural member.

This is how GH chooses labs to participate in the PPO.
