New Choice for NSF

Subra Suresh is the White House's choice to succeed Arden Bement as the director of the National Science Foundation, reports ScienceInsider. Suresh is currently the dean of engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studies nanomaterials, particularly their mechanical properties. ScienceInsider notes that Suresh would be "a rarity at NSF, which has traditionally been led by senior administrators who are no longer active scientists." Bement is stepping down to lead a new research institute at Purdue University.
