Connection Between Epigenome, Selective Mutability, Evolution, and Human Disease
Li, Harris et al., PLoS Genetics
Researchers at the Baylor College of Medicine and elsewhere propose a "connection between the epigenome, selective mutability, evolution, and human disease" based on the findings of their study on associations of structural mutability with germline DNA methylation and with non-allelic homologous recombination mediated by low-copy repeats. "Combined evidence from four human sperm methylome maps, human genome evolution, structural polymorphisms in the human population, and previous genomic and disease studies consistently points to a strong association of germline hypomethylation and genomic instability," the Baylor-led team writes.
DiagnoCure Oncology Labs Names LabCorp Vet as New President
DiagnoCure Oncology Laboratories, a CLIA lab based in West Chester, Pa., has appointed Valerie Palmieri as its new president, its parent company said today.
According to a statement, Palmieri held "executive positions" at DIANON Systems and LabCorp, and comes to DiagnoCure from health care consulting shop Momentum Consulting.
Her goal will be to "grow DiagnoCure Oncology Laboratories into a self-sustained, profitable laboratory services business," Yves Fradet, president and chief medical officer of parent company DiagnoCure, said.
The "initial focus" of this goal will be to drive growth in the company's colorectal cancer disease-management business, which is anchored by its Previstage GCC colorectal cancer staging test.
Launched in 2008, the molecular assay uses quantitative RT-PCR to interrogate a patient’s lymph nodes to identify levels of guanylyl cyclase C "consistent with that found in nodes with histologically confirmed, clinically significant metastases from stage III CRC patients."
