CDC on Tuesday released a bolus of interim regs outlining H1N1 testing during the coming flu season.

The guidelines, which are targeted to physicians and patients, cover in detail the pros and cons of four classes of diagnostics (rapid influenza diagnostic tests, viral cultures, direct and indirect immunofluorescence assays, and real-time RT-PCR assays) and describe when and why they should be prescribed.

Here are the regs, entitled The Interim Recommendations for Clinical Use of Influenza Diagnostic Tests During the 2009-10 Influenza Season, The Interim Recommendations for Clinical Use of Influenza Diagnostic Testing During the 2009-2010 Influenza Season (for health-care providers), and The Influenza Diagnostic Testing During the 2009-2010 Flu Season (for the public).
